Trust & Safety

Last updated: 2 July 2026

Trust is fundamental to maritime recruitment. CrewAhead is designed to encourage professional, transparent and respectful interactions between seafarers, shore professionals and maritime employers. This page explains the standards we expect, the steps we take to support safer recruitment, and what you can do to protect yourself and others on the platform.

Our Safety Principles

These principles guide how CrewAhead is built and how we expect the community to use it.

Honesty

Accurate profiles, genuine vacancies and truthful communication help everyone make better decisions.

Transparency

Terms, privacy practices and reporting channels are clear, so users know what to expect.

Respectful Communication

Professional conduct in messages, applications and job listings is essential.

Responsible Recruitment

Employers must follow applicable licensing requirements and seafarers should never be charged for recruitment.

Protection of Information

Personal documents and contact details should be shared carefully and only when necessary.

Fair Opportunity

Decisions about hiring and applying should be based on merit, qualifications and fit, not discrimination or pressure.

Safe Recruitment

Maritime recruitment carries specific risks: fraudulent agents, unclear contracts, and offers that arrive through unofficial channels. CrewAhead helps reduce these risks by providing a structured platform where employers agree to basic conduct requirements and where candidates can review opportunities before responding.

We also review employer accounts before they can post jobs. Company profiles must be approved, and manning or crewing agencies are expected to provide any required RPSL registration. This approval is a first step, not a guarantee of ongoing conduct, so we still encourage users to verify details independently.

For practical guidance on recognising and avoiding recruitment fraud, see our Recruitment Fraud Awareness page and For Seafarers guidance.

Responsible Profiles

Both candidates and employers should keep the information they publish accurate and up to date.

  • Candidates should use genuine certificates, sea service records and documents, and update their profile when circumstances change.
  • Employers should publish real vacancies with clear requirements, accurate locations and truthful terms of employment.
  • Everyone should respect the privacy and time of the people they contact through the platform.

CrewAhead may review or remove content that appears misleading, inconsistent with our guidelines, or harmful to the community.

Protecting Personal Information

Your professional documents and contact information are valuable. Treat them with the same care you would give any official paperwork.

  • Share identity documents, medical records and certificates only when you are confident in the recipient.
  • Use the profile visibility settings available to you to control who can discover your profile.
  • Remember that submitted applications may remain visible to the employer involved even if you later reduce your profile visibility.

For full details on how we collect, use and protect personal information, please read our Privacy Policy and Cookie Policy.

Reporting Concerns

If you notice something that does not feel right, you can report it. We review submissions individually and may request additional information to understand what happened.

Common reasons to report include:

  • Suspicious recruitment activity or requests for payment.
  • Abusive or disrespectful conduct.
  • Misleading job advertisements or profile information.
  • Impersonation or misuse of the platform.
  • Privacy or security concerns.

Report a concern through our Contact page, or learn more about how we handle reports on the Grievance Redressal page. Our Community Guidelines also describe the behaviour we expect from everyone on CrewAhead.

What CrewAhead Can and Cannot Do

It is important to understand the role CrewAhead plays and where your judgement matters.

CrewAhead can

  • Provide a structured platform for maritime recruitment and career management.
  • Apply an employer approval process before job posting is permitted.
  • Offer reporting channels and review concerns submitted by users.
  • Encourage transparent profiles and accurate information.
  • Support visibility settings that help users control who can find their profile.

CrewAhead cannot

  • Guarantee employment, interviews, selection, salary, visa approval or joining dates.
  • Independently verify every claim, certificate, document or employer statement. Some verification features are administrative and may not cover all content.
  • Replace professional, legal or regulatory advice from flag states, class societies or maritime authorities.
  • Detect every instance of fraud or misuse automatically. Users should remain alert and verify opportunities independently.
